Good early, 19th century, Spiers of Ayr dovetailed coffin-shaped steel smoothing plane. Gunmetal lever cap with the earliest small upside down Spiers stamp. Dark rosewood infill is in very good condition for its age apart from a very small nick to the top of the hndle spur, no cracks. Near full length thick parallel iron by Robt Sorby produces a fine mouth. Slight pitting to the sole. Pretty good condition for a plane of this age I would say.

Good early, 19th century. Spiers of Ayr 13 3/4" long dovetailed steel panel plane in very good condition for its age. Gunmetal lever cap with the earliers small upside down Spiers stamp. Stunning dark rosewood infill with fully enclosed rear handle. Original backing iron but with a full length old replacement blade by Mawhood of Sheffield which produces a fine mouth.
