Stanley & Record Planes

Woodworking planes by Stanley of America were highly sought after in Britain for decades and were extremely popular from the early 1900's onwards. In the 1930's Stanley opened up tool factories in Sheffield producing English examples of many of their range of tools.

Record were an English company making mainly planes from their factories in Sheffield in direct competition to Stanley. Today, they are still considered as the one of the best types of planes on the market, plus they have also become a collectors item for tool collectors and enthusiasts. Many of the range of planes manufactured by both companines are no longer available new as both companies have long since ceased to exist.

What is a woodworking Plane?

A woodworking plane usually consists of a metal body with various wood components tightly fitted ( or infilled) into the interior. These original, handmade tools come in different styles and perform essentially the same functions as modern cast planes - that is, helping to smooth or sharpen wood. 

Planes are excellent tools for woodworking projects and at-home DIY jobs. You can improve the look and feel of your wood whilst shaping it into a more convenient structure to suit your personal taste.
