Product Information

This really is an oddity !!!

At first glance it just looks like a normal late model Norris adjustable A1 panel plane until you start looking a bit closer.

14" long casting with gunmetal lever cap and ebonised beech infill. Now, the front infill is not the normal late model shape but the much earlier shape found on the rosewood infilled examples, also the plane has the early 1913 patent adjuster. The plane comes with almost full length typical late model Norris parallel iron and the gunmetal lever cap also has the typical late model Norris stamp. I have looked at the plane very closely and as far as I can see it has not been tampered with in any way as all the pins are good and have not been touched. You can't possibly get the blade adjuster in without removing the lever cap and this definitely has not been done and anyway it still doesn't explain the early front bun shape. The plane is also in very good clean condition.

My personal opinion of this plane is that it was made in the early 1940's during the second world war before the factory was bombed using parts lying around as at that time the factory had been "taken over so to speak" by the government to help in the war effort making various items needed in the war.

Definitely unique as I have never seen a similar example. RARE.
